Restrepia sanguinea
The Blood Red Restrepia is a small epiphyte/lithophyte restricted to Colombia where it can be found growing up to 2500m in altitude. It is a clump forming species that requires moderate shade, high humidity and cool to intermediate growing conditions. It can be potted in an epiphyte mix. The inflorescence emerge from the reverse side and base of a sometimes purple leaf. The flowers bloom in succession during the spring month. The lateral sepals are partially-fused and spotted in a fuchsia-red pattern while the dorsal is veined in purple. The lip of this species is much larger than most and is similar to the lateral sepal.
