Phragmipedium besseae

This is an intermediate growing species from the Andes in northern Peru to southern Colombia. It requires semi-shaded conditions and high humidity as it is often found growing on/beside moist rock faces at elevations up to 1000m. The erect inflorescence can reach up to 60 cm in length and bear 6 cm sized flowers in succession in the spring. Well diluted fertilizer should be used and the plant should remain wet.
