Mexicoa ghiesbreghtiana

This species is a medium epiphyte/lithophyte with short rhizomes and pseudobulbs (4 cm). It is from the montane oak forests of southern Mexico. The inflorescence arise from the base of the pseudobulbs and reach up to 20 cm in length and bear up to ten flowers, each 2 cm across, in the spring and summer. The petals are slightly smaller than the sepals but the lip is extremely large in a trilobular structure. This species should be grown in intermediate to warm conditions, and given moderate shade and humidity with adequate water during active growth and less so once maturity is reached.
